Host a Workshop

About the Brush Making Workshop

Brush Making is my most popular workshop.  Are you ready to expand your mark making vocabulary? I bring the materials, tools and the enthusiasm and you come ready to make brushes that make marks that are uniquely your own.

We go step by step through the brushmaking process, then you all get to build your very own brushes. I individually work every student through the rough spots until everyone has made at least one brush.  Most students manage to make a handful of brushes to take home.

What my brush making workshop includes:

I provide all the materials to make several brushes per student. This includes bamboo material for handles, an assortment of materials for ferrules, different types of hair and natural plant materials for the brush heads, and all the glue and patience necessary to see you through the process.

I start by sharing highlights of brush making, how I got started, why I continue to make brushes, and the steps involved in making a brush. Next I will build a brush from start to finish in front of you. Then (the really fun part) I turn you loose with the materials and I work with each of you as needed to help you build your first brush.

I also talk about material sourcing, types of hair, preparing handles, and matching ferrules and brush heads.
